Where Light Gathers

Where Light Gathers | London
January – March 2026.

“Kismet Gallery opens the year with an exhibition exploring contemporary Islamic art through the lens of Noor – divine light. Rooted in sacred meaning and expressed through modern form, these works reflect how faith continues to live, shift, and speak in our present moment.

Light appears here as guidance, knowledge, and truth – illuminating the heart even when unseen by the eye. These works invite reflection on the Divine as an intimate presence, known deeply through devotion, prayer, and inner awareness.

Bringing together the works of four contemporary artists – Samar Farooq, Samir Malik, Hajrah Ayoub, and Alia Himmat – the exhibition celebrates the diversity of Islamic artistic expression across cultures, geographies, and lived experiences. From British artists with Kashmiri and Punjabi heritage to voices shaped between Pakistan, United Kingdom, UAE, Syria, and Italy, this exhibition reflects the global and plural nature of contemporary Islamic art.

In contrast to our previous exhibition of classical calligraphy, these works engage tradition through contemporary language. Sacred texts and invocations appear through experimental composition, pictorial calligraphy, and reimagined scripts, including Sinni calligraphy, Almoravid Kufic, and Chinese Arabic pictorial styles.

These works speak of unity and singularity: God as the One, indivisible, the ultimate source of all existence. They echo millions of daily invocations sent toward a presence unseen yet intimately known. Here, a line becomes a prayer, and a prayer becomes a moment of relief, reflection, and connection.

To stand before these works and to pray between them is to encounter devotion in contemporary form.

You are not only welcome here; You are invited”
